Requirements: Android 2.2+
Overview: Find, discover, play & augment the reality of your planetary night sky!
PlanetFinder+, is an astronomy compass and an augmented reality camera that renders the solar system planets around you (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto!). If you're doing astronomy observations it's a convenient tool to get an orientation of your night sky!
You will get the planets right ascensions (directions) relative to your position and to the orientation of your android device. The declination (height) above the horizon is shown on a logarithmic scale. Even the phase of the inner planets is visualized.
Pointing the phone toward the sky will switch to augmented reality mode! Spot the planets through your mobile camera and why not take a snapshot and share it via facebook, email, twitter or mms?
You can even interact with the augmented reality view by activating the player. Play, pause, rewind, fast forward the solar system! This will render the planets color coded trajectories!
Switch back to the 2D compass or text views by lowering your mobile phone. From here you can access the menu and share the pictures you've taken in AR mode.
With a simple one touch the 2D compass view switches to a text view displaying the celestial objects' coordinates.
You can get more detailed information about the planet of your choice. Just click it to get information about it's magnitude, apparent diameter, distance from earth, elongation and its constellation.
Get even more information by using the event module that calculates rise, transit and set times. If you want the latest static information, follow (touch) the wiki icon.
You can also simulate the planet motions in 2D compass view. Play, pause, rewind, fast forward the solar system! Find out when your favorite astronomy objects reach their maximum position.
The graphical view is zoomable. There's a "3D" zoom feature that can be switched on called "Zoom Universe in and out". Once activated; zoom out to the dark edges of the Universe.
The application can be installed on the phone sd card in order to save phone storage.
(open settings -> programs -> manage programs -> PlanetFinder+ -> move to sd)
