Creating icons is a necessary task for software developers, but they're not the only ones who make icons; average Joes and Janes also enjoy customizing their desktops with icons of their own creation. Whether you need to make icons for business or pleasure, Imagicon is a simple way to do it. It has advanced features for more-experienced users, but even newbies will be able to master its basics.

Imagicon's interface is just a small square with a few menus across the top; using it isn't an entirely intuitive process, but we were able to figure it out fairly easily with a little trial and error. You will first want to use the Options menu to select the settings for your icon, including its size, transparency, any desired rotation, and the desired file format and output location. Formats include ICO, JPEG, PNG, and BMP. Once your settings are where you want them, simply drag and drop the desired file onto the program's interface; it will automatically transform your image and deposit it in the output location. Imagicon comes with a pretty thorough Help file, but it's clearly written with the advanced user in mind, and it doesn't go out of its way to explain all of the concepts it discusses. Still, neophytes should be able to figure it out with a bit of research and experimentation, and anyone with experience creating icons should have no trouble with it. Overall, we liked Imagicon quite a bit; we've seen other icon software that's not nearly this easy to use.
